Cross Country Time

Last night was my first night flight just around the practice area to perform maneuvers and become adjusted to night flight. It was "WILD." That turned out to be my descriptor word for everything last night. It was sooo smooth and calm. I performed all my maneuvers well and even clipped my own wake at the end of my steep 360* turn, which you have to fly pretty well to do that. So it was pretty cool to accomplish that. We went back to Norwood Airport and completed 5 of the 10 required night take offs and landings for my private pilot license. Next week I will do a night cross country where I will complete the rest.

Today was my first real cross-country flight. I got to Horizon Aviation just before 1 to try to finish up my cross-country planning. Though, I had been having some difficulties with the calculations, so I had Josh help me out by explaining them to me again as we completed the plan together. We did our normal preflight and departed Norwood as planned. We climbed up to 2500 feet. The climb up was pretty bumpy, but above 2000 feet it was perfectly smooth. I was amazed at how accurate the planning calculations come out to be. It was really amazing to see it work out exactly as planned. With a slight tail wind we got down to Hyannis in a little less than 30 minutes. And a little more than 30 minutes on the way back up.

Tomorrow we head out to Orange for my next cross-country flight. Things are moving very quickly toward my next stage check and my upcoming Private Pilot Exam.
