Sorry I'm a little behind on the posting from this past weekend! But, Saturday was a great day to fly. First thing was first, I did not have my regular lesson with my instructor Josh. Today was the day that I went for my Stage Check with Paul Jacob, the Check Flight Instructor at Horizon Aviation. We sat at his desk area and covered all the knowledge material behind all the maneuvers and basic safety items to make sure that I have that down pat. Then we went out to the plane where I did everything from the preflight, to the flight out to the practice area where I showed him all my maneuvers at his request and then flew back to Norwood where we did a few take offs and landings and even a go around. The only few minor things I missed was adjusting the altimeter to the current pressure setting, which I cannot believe that I missed! Also he would like to see me taxi a little slower, and just to put the crosswind input back in upon landing. That's it. Other than that it was a great flight! So, now I have the real go ahead to start taking the plane out to the practice area myself after one more local solo flight around the airport, which I am to complete that afternoon.
Well we finished up that check right about 100, since that was the start time of my next lesson and I wasn't feeling too wiped out, I opted to go straight into my next lesson - My Second Solo. With that in mind, we did the same thing that we did for my 1st lesson. We flew the pattern around the airport with 3 take offs and landings, and then we taxiied back to where I dropped my instructor off on the ramp near the parking area. I did the run up and all the radio calls and headed out for my 3 solo laps around the airport with full stop landings in between. All went very well.
So other than having my stage 2 exam on Charts and Weather on Thursday, I should be able to take the plane out to the practice area myself and practice my maneuvers on my own for the first time! I'm so excited!
Starting at the end of this week will be night flights and the start of my cross-country (aka long distance) flights! Hyannis will be one of the first stops! =)
